Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said... and he narrated this hadith. Imam Muslim has narrated it with his chain from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) in marfu‘ form: A believer is not bitten from the same hole twice.
Explanation: In this blessed hadith, a believing person is taught to live life with caution: if he has once been stung from a hole, he should not put his hand into it again. The meaning is that when one has experienced, regarding something or someone, that there is harm instead of good in it, then he should not approach it again, because to test something already tested is not wisdom but foolishness, which does not befit a believer.
