Hasan says that Ubaydullah bin Ziyad visited Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) during the illness in which he passed away. Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Indeed, I am narrating to you a hadith which I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). If I knew that my life would continue, I would not narrate this hadith to you. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Any servant whom Allah makes a ruler over the people, and he dies on the day of his death while deceiving his people, then Allah makes Paradise forbidden for him." Imam Muslim has also narrated something similar with his chain, and in it, instead of (ghashsha li ra’iyyatihi) "deceiving his people," the words are (wa huwa ghash) "and he is a deceiver."
