Hadith 794

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever indecency is found in a thing, it makes it ugly, and whatever modesty is found in a thing, it makes it beautiful."

Brief Explanation
Explanation:
The meaning is that gentleness and modesty (haya) are two such qualities that whoever attains them, it is as if he has attained the goodness of both this world and the Hereafter. Such a person will not only be beloved and popular among people, but will also be among the accepted and favored ones in the sight of Allah Ta'ala. What greater adornment and beauty can there be than for a person to become beloved to both the Creator and the creation? In contrast to gentleness and modesty are harshness and shamelessness; whoever possesses these two is deprived of the goodness of this world and the Hereafter. Such a person is disliked by both the Creator and the creation. What greater stigma can there be for a person than to be disliked by both the Creator and the creation? In any case, there is nothing but good in gentleness and modesty, while there is nothing but evil in harshness and shamelessness.
