Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Adhere to those deeds which you are able to do, for Allah does not tire, but you tire. And indeed, the most beloved deeds to Allah are those which are done consistently, even if they are few.” And this hadith has been narrated by Muslim ibn Hajjaj with his chain from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), who reports it as marfu‘: “Adhere to those deeds which you are able to do, for Allah does not tire (of rewarding), but you tire (of performing deeds).”

Brief Explanation
Explanation: In this blessed hadith, two points have been stated: ① Act according to your strength and ability; do not undertake any deed for which you do not have the capacity. Here, "deed" refers to supererogatory (nafl) acts. To take on something beyond one’s strength is to put oneself into hardship and difficulty, which is not permitted in Islam. Allah the Exalted says: ﴿لَايُكَلِّفُاللَّهُنَفْسًاإِلَّاوُسْعَهَا﴾ (al-Baqarah: 286) “Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity.” In another place, He says: ﴿يُرِيدُاللَّهُبِكُمُالْيُسْرَوَلَايُرِيدُبِكُمُالْعُسْرَ﴾ (al-Baqarah: 185) “Allah intends ease for you and does not intend hardship for you.” Elsewhere, He says: ﴿وَمَاجَعَلَعَلَيْكُمْفِيالدِّينِمِنْحَرَجٍ﴾ (al-Hajj: 78) “He has not placed upon you in the religion any hardship.” It is thus clear that the religion of Islam forbids putting the servant into hardship and difficulty. Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha says: “One day, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam came to me while a woman was sitting with me. He asked, ‘Who is this?’ I replied, ‘Such-and-such woman,’ and I mentioned her devotion and diligence in prayer. He said, ‘Stop (listen)! You are only obligated to do as much as you are able. By Allah! Allah does not tire (of rewarding) until you tire (of acting), and the most beloved deed to Allah is that which is done consistently.’” [بخاري : 43] There is a well-known hadith that three Companions came to the wives of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam to ask about his worship. When they were informed of his practice, it was as if they considered it little, and they said: “What comparison do we have with the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam! His past and future errors have been forgiven.” One of them said: “From today, I will stand in prayer all night.” The second said: “I will fast every day and never break my fast.” The third said: “I will abstain from women and never marry.” Then the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam came and asked them: “Are you the ones who said such-and-such?” Listen! By Allah, I am the most God-fearing among you and the most pious, but I fast and I break my fast, I pray (at night) and I sleep, and I marry women. Whoever turns away from my way is not of me.” [بخاري : 5063] Once, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam entered the mosque and saw a rope tied between two pillars. He asked, “What is this rope?” The people replied, “This is for Sayyidah Zaynab radi Allahu anha; when she becomes tired (while standing in prayer), she holds onto it.” The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “No, this rope should not be here. Untie it. Each of you should pray as long as he is energetic; when he becomes tired, he should sit down.” [بخاري : 1150] ② The most beloved deed to Allah the Exalted is that which is done consistently, even if it is little. That is, regularity and adherence in deeds is the real success, and Allah the Exalted loves such deeds that are performed with consistency and continuity. Doing something today and abandoning it tomorrow—such a deed is absolutely not beloved to Allah the Exalted. For this reason, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam advised his Companion, Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Amr radi Allahu anhu: “Do not be like so-and-so who used to stand (in prayer) at night and then abandoned it.” [بخاري : 1152] Once, Sayyidah Aisha radi Allahu anha was asked: “Which deed was most beloved to the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam?” She replied: “That which was done consistently.” [بخاري : 1132]
