It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, that indeed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Visit the sick, attend funerals; (doing so) will remind you of the Hereafter."

Brief Explanation
Explanation: - The truly intelligent and wise person is the one who remembers his death; whoever does not remember death is not intelligent. In the aforementioned hadith, two things have been emphasized regarding remembering death:
① Visiting the Sick (ʿiyadat al-marid): ... Visiting the sick holds great virtue. It is mentioned in a hadith that when a Muslim goes to visit his Muslim brother, he remains engaged in picking the fresh fruits of Paradise until he returns. [مسلم : 2568] Similarly, in another hadith, it is stated that on the Day of Resurrection, Allah, the Exalted, will say: "O son of Adam! I was ill, but you did not visit Me." The person will say: "O my Lord! How could I visit You when You are the Lord of the worlds?" Allah will say: "Did you not know that My servant so-and-so was ill, but you did not visit him? Had you visited him, you would surely have found Me with him." [مسلم : 2569] Along with the many other great virtues of visiting the sick, one benefit is that it reminds a person of his own death. When a person reflects on the illness and condition of the sick, he is reminded of his own death.
② Following Funerals (ittibaʿ al-jana'iz): ... Participating in funerals is also a highly virtuous act. It is mentioned in a hadith: "Whoever, with faith and seeking reward, participates in the funeral of a Muslim and remains with it until the funeral prayer is offered and the burial is completed, he returns with two qirats of reward; each qirat is like the mountain of Uhud. And whoever offers the funeral prayer and returns before the burial is completed, he returns with one qirat of reward." [بخاري : 1325 ، ومسلم : 935] When a person participates in a funeral, he is certainly reminded of his own death—that just as today this brother of mine is departing from this world on the journey to the Hereafter, in the same way, one day I too must set out on this journey.
