Hadith 719

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Salam (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah, people began to come to him in groups, so I was also among those who came to him. When I saw his face, I realized that this is not the face of a liar. I heard him say: "O people! Spread peace (salam) widely, feed (others), maintain ties of kinship, and pray at night when people are asleep; you will enter Paradise in peace."

Brief Explanation
Explanation: -
From this blessed hadith, it is understood that to enter Paradise with goodness and safety, it is necessary to act upon four things:

Spreading Salam (Afsha’ al-Salam): . . . . .
To make salam (greeting of peace) common, that is, to frequently say “Assalamu Alaikum” to one another, even if there is no direct kinship or friendship with a Muslim, or even if the Muslim is a stranger—this is spreading salam. However, one should not greet non-Muslims, polytheists, or innovators (ahl al-bid‘ah) with salam, because this is prohibited according to other evidences.

Feeding (Giving Food): . . . . .
That is, to feed the poor, needy, and destitute as charity (sadaqah), and to feed friends and loved ones as a gift (hadiyyah). This will create love in the hearts, and besides removing hatred and resentment, it will also be a cure for miserliness and stinginess.

Maintaining Ties of Kinship (Silat al-Rahm): . . . . .
To maintain relations with relatives, to treat them well, and to uphold their rights—all these things are included in silat al-rahm (maintaining ties of kinship). The Noble Qur’an and the ahadith place great emphasis on silat al-rahm; there are glad tidings for those who maintain it, and severe warnings for those who sever it. In short, without silat al-rahm, fulfilling the rights of Allah’s servants (huquq al-‘ibad) is impossible, and without fulfilling the rights of Allah’s servants, entering Paradise is impossible.

Tahajjud Prayer: . . . . .
To perform the tahajjud prayer at night when people are asleep. Although its time begins after ‘Isha, the best and most virtuous time is the last part of the night. The pleasure and delight found in praying at that time is beyond description; therefore, one should stand in prayer (qiyam al-layl) at that time. Those who, with zeal and eagerness, consistently observe the aforementioned deeds and are not heedless of them, will be forgiven the punishment of Hell; by Allah’s mercy, they will enter Paradise.
