Brief Explanation
Explanation: -
The scholars say that to "make the Fajr prayer well illuminated" means that the Fajr prayer should be started in darkness and the recitation should be prolonged to such an extent that it becomes light, because in one hadith it is stated: "The more you perform the Fajr prayer in brightness, the greater the reward for you." [نسائي : 550 ، وسنده صحيح]
Another meaning is that by "brightness" is meant the brightness on the horizon, that is, at the edge of the sky, not on the ground. The meaning is that the prayer should be performed when the eastern horizon becomes well illuminated, even if there is still darkness on the ground. This meaning also corresponds with the practice of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. In the hadith it is stated that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would perform the Fajr prayer, and after it, the women would return wrapped in their cloaks and would not be recognized due to the darkness. [بخاري : 867]
Some scholars have also said that this ruling has been abrogated, because it is established from the ahadith that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam continued to perform the prayer in darkness until his death. Thus, in the hadith it is stated that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam once performed the Fajr prayer in darkness and once performed it when it was brightened, but after that, his prayer would always be in darkness until he passed away, and he never performed it in brightness again. [أبو داود : 394 ، وسند و حسن]
