Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Remember frequently the destroyer of pleasures (death), for indeed, if it is remembered in abundance of wealth, it diminishes it, and if it is remembered in scarcity of wealth, it increases it.”

Brief Explanation
Explanation: This blessed hadith is extremely eloquent, comprehensive, and articulate in terms of admonition and warning. A person who remembers death as it ought to be remembered refrains from immersing himself in worldly pleasures and from committing sins. For him, the pleasures of the world become insignificant, and the greatest benefit is that the heedlessness which acts as an obstacle to righteous deeds is removed. Therefore, one should remember death frequently and never be heedless of the circumstances that will arise after death.
Whoever remembers death in a state of hardship, for him, ease is created; and whoever remembers it in a state of ease, for him, hardship is created. That is, the remembrance of death brings a person to the path of moderation: the poverty of the poor becomes insignificant, and the wealth of the rich becomes meaningless. When a poor person frequently remembers death, considering the world to be empty, he becomes content with little wealth, and thus even a small amount of wealth seems much to him. And when a wealthy person frequently remembers death, his gaze shifts from the temporary future of this world to the everlasting future of the Hereafter; the wealth of this world becomes insignificant in his eyes, so even a large amount of worldly wealth seems little to him.
