Hadith 633

Sayyiduna Amr bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I asked: O Messenger of Allah! Should I tie my mount and then rely on Allah, or should I leave it untied and rely on Allah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tie it and then rely (on Allah)."

Brief Explanation
Explanation:
This hadith shows that after utilizing means, one should then place trust (tawakkul) in Allah Ta'ala. Merely relying on apparent means, or completely ignoring the means, is not in accordance with the Shari'ah, because the clear command of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has come: "Tie your camel and then place your trust in Allah." In other words, he has commanded us to adopt apparent means. However, reliance and conviction should not be upon the means, but rather upon Allah Ta'ala Himself, because without the divine will (mashiyyat ilahiyyah), the means can do nothing.
