Brief Explanation
Benefit-
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rayhanah Ansari radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Fever is (from) the furnace of Hell, and it is a substitute for the fire of Hell for the believer.” (Al-Tarikh al-Kabir by al-Bukhari: 7/63 – Sharh Mushkil al-Athar: 2217 – and its chain is hasan)
And likewise, it is also true that fever is an expiation (kaffarah) for the sins of the believer. Thus, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Do not curse fever, for indeed it removes the sins of the children of Adam just as a furnace removes the rust from iron.” (Muslim: 2575)
In another hadith it is stated: “Whenever a Muslim is afflicted with any hardship, Allah, because of it, sheds his sins just as a tree sheds its leaves.” (Bukhari: 5647)
A third hadith is as follows: “Whatever worry, illness, anxiety, grief, or harm befalls a Muslim—even if a thorn pricks him—Allah, because of it, forgives his sins.” (Also: 5641) For details, refer to the author’s book “Deeds That Erase Sins.”
