Sayyida Umm Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates from Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah has already finished (writing) five things for every servant: his deeds, his death, his life, his sustenance, and his abode. No servant can go beyond what Allah has written regarding these.”

Brief Explanation
Explanation:
This hadith pertains to the issue of predestination (qadar), belief in which is obligatory. Whatever matters regarding predestination are established from the Book and the Sunnah are all true, and we have faith in them. Although everything is written in predestination, here five particularly important things have been mentioned, because a person's striving is generally for these very things. Every person is engaged in some action; whatever he is doing, whether good or bad, all is written in predestination.

Everyone flees from death; no one likes to die, but the time of death is also fixed. No matter how much a person tries, the appointed time cannot be postponed. Similarly, a person's lifespan and life are also written, which he must inevitably spend; there can be no increase or decrease in it. Sustenance (rizq) is also written in one's fate; no matter how much effort and striving a person makes, he will receive only what is written in his fate—he will not receive more or less than that. One's abode is also fixed: the place where he will live in this world, and after death where he will be buried, and likewise his eternal abode—whether it is Paradise or Hell—all has already been written in predestination.
