Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Marqa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) conquered Khaybar and they (the companions) were eighteen hundred in number. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) divided the (spoils of war) into eighteen shares, making one share for every hundred. He says: And that area was abundant with fruits; when they ate them, fever became prevalent among them. So they complained about it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: “O people! Indeed, fever is a forerunner of death and Allah’s prison on earth.” This hadith is concise.
