Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I was helped by the east wind (Saba), and the people of ‘Ad were destroyed by the west wind (Dabur)." Imam Tabarani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Only Abu ‘Awanah narrated it from Qatadah, and Muhammad bin Aban is unique in narrating it from him.

Brief Explanation
Explanation: - Wind is among the signs of Allah, it is both a means of assistance and of punishment. Allah, the Exalted, aided His Prophet through the wind called Saba. Saba refers to the wind that blows from the east towards the west. On the occasion of the Battle of the Trench (Ghazwah Khandaq), when the army of the Arab disbelievers had besieged the Muslims, Allah, the Exalted, helped His Prophet and the believers through this wind, as is mentioned in the Noble Qur’an:
﴿يَاأَيُّهَاالَّذِينَآمَنُوااذْكُرُوانِعْمَةَاللَّهِعَلَيْكُمْإِذْجَاءَتْكُمْجُنُودٌفَأَرْسَلْنَاعَلَيْهِمْرِيحًاوَجُنُودًالَّمْتَرَوْهَاوَكَانَاللَّهُبِمَاتَعْمَلُونَبَصِيرًا﴾ (Al-Ahzab: 9) “O you who believe! Remember Allah’s favor upon you when armies came against you, so We sent upon them a wind and armies you did not see, and Allah is ever Seeing of what you do.”
The people of ‘Ad were destroyed by the wind called Dabbur. Dabbur is the wind that blows from the west towards the east, that is, it is exactly opposite to Saba. Through this, Allah, the Exalted, destroyed the people of ‘Ad. The people of ‘Ad were a very rebellious nation; when they denied the Prophet Hud (alayhis salam) and exceeded all limits in their rebellion and wickedness, Allah, the Exalted, sent Dabbur upon them and destroyed them, as is mentioned in the Noble Qur’an:
﴿وَأَمَّاعَادٌفَأُهْلِكُوابِرِيحٍصَرْصَرٍعَاتِيَةٍ «٦» سَخَّرَهَاعَلَيْهِمْسَبْعَلَيَالٍوَثَمَانِيَةَأَيَّامٍحُسُومًافَتَرَىالْقَوْمَفِيهَاصَرْعَىٰكَأَنَّهُمْأَعْجَازُنَخْلٍخَاوِيَةٍ «٧» فَهَلْتَرَىٰلَهُممِّنبَاقِيَةٍ «٨» ﴾ (Al-Haqqah: 6-8) “And as for ‘Ad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind «٦». He imposed it upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees «٧». So do you see any remnant of them? «٨»”
