Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Alcohol is the root of all evils."
Explanation— In this hadith, alcohol has been called "the mother of all evils," and this is indeed the reality: it is such a thing that neither lets a person have this world nor the Hereafter. Whoever becomes involved in this evil falls into the pit of destruction. In the Noble Qur’an, there are very clear verses regarding the prohibition of alcohol. (See, Surah al-Ma’idah: 90 to 92) And in the ahadith, along with its prohibition, its harms have also been mentioned. For example:
① "Whoever drank alcohol in this world and died persisting in it without repenting, he will not be able to drink it in the Hereafter." (Muslim: 2003)
② "The one who drinks alcohol will not enter Paradise." (Nasa’i: 6755, hasan)
③ "Allah has made Paradise forbidden for the one who drinks alcohol." (Ahmad: 2/29, and its chain is hasan)
④ "A habitual drinker of alcohol is like an idol worshipper." (Ibn Majah: 3375, and its chain is hasan)
⑤ "Whoever from my ummah drinks alcohol, Allah will not accept his prayer for forty days." (Nasa’i: 5667, and its chain is sahih)
