Brief Explanation
Explanation: - The meaning is that between a person and Hell there is a barrier and obstacle of carnal desires and pleasures. When a person becomes entangled in desires and pleasures, it means that he has crossed this barrier and entered Hell. And between Paradise and a person, there are pains and hardships, sufferings and difficulties, or the commands and obligations of Islam, the fulfillment of which at times is burdensome upon the human soul—these are the barriers and obstacles. When a person endures them, it is as if he has removed this obstacle and has become deserving of entering Paradise. [رياض الصالحين : 133/1]
It is mentioned in the hadith that when Allah Ta‘ala created Paradise and Hell, He sent Jibril to Paradise and said: Go and see Paradise and what I have prepared in it for the people of Paradise. He went and saw, then returned and said: By Your honor! Whoever hears about Paradise will surely enter it. Allah then commanded, and Paradise was surrounded by hardships and things disagreeable to the soul. Allah said: Now go again and see what I have prepared in Paradise for My servants. He went and saw that Paradise was now surrounded by a fence of hardships and difficulties. He returned and said: By Your honor! I fear that no one will be able to enter it. Allah said: Go and see Hell and what I have prepared in it for the people of Hell. He went and saw that the flames of fire were clashing with one another. He returned and said: By Your honor! No one will enter it. Allah then commanded, and it was surrounded by a fence of things desirable to the soul. He said: Now go and see. He saw that it was now surrounded by a fence of attractive things. He returned and said: By Your honor! I fear that no one will be able to escape from it; surely everyone will enter it.
