Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever asks people for their wealth in order to increase his own wealth, in reality he is asking for a burning coal. Now it is up to him, he may ask for a little or he may ask for more." Muslim narrated it from Abu Kurayb and Wasl bin Abdul A'la (may Allah have mercy on them), they said that Ibn Fudayl (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated to us with his chain, and he narrated the like of it.

Brief Explanation
Explanation: In this hadith, the act of asking from people without any genuine need is condemned, such that whoever asks from people merely with the intention of increasing his wealth, in reality, he is asking for embers of the Fire of Hell. Now, it is up to him whether he asks for more embers or less. Asking from people without necessity is a major sin (kabirah) and there are severe warnings regarding it.
The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “A man continues to ask from people until, when the Day of Resurrection comes, he will appear and there will be no flesh left on his face.” [بخاري : 174 مسلم : 1040]
In another hadith, it is stated: “Asking is a scratch; a man, because of it, puts scratches on his own face. Whoever wishes, let him keep them on his face, and whoever wishes, let him abandon them. However, asking from the ruler or regarding something for which there is no alternative is permissible.” [أبو داود : 1639 ترمذي 681 ، صحيح]
