Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "If a person commits a sin in this world and then receives its punishment, it is far from Allah's justice that He would punish His servant for that sin again. And if a person commits a sin and Allah conceals it in this world and pardons him, then it is far from Allah's greatness that He would punish him again for a sin He has already pardoned."

Brief Explanation
Benefit: It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Ubadah bin Samit radi Allahu anhu, who also participated in the Battle of Badr and was among the leaders (naqibs) at the Night of ‘Aqabah, that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, at a time when a group of his Companions was sitting around him, said: “Pledge allegiance to me on the condition that you will not associate anything with Allah, will not steal, will not commit adultery (zina), will not kill your children, will not slander anyone intentionally and falsely, and will not disobey (me) in any matter. Whoever among you fulfills this covenant, his reward is with Allah. And whoever commits any of these (evil deeds) and is punished for it in this world, then that punishment will be an expiation for his (sin). And whoever becomes involved in any of these (evil deeds) and Allah conceals his sin, then his matter is referred to Allah; if He wills, He will forgive him, and if He wills, He will punish him.” [صحيح بخاري : 18]
