Hadith 486

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has a favor done to him should repay it, and whoever is not able to do so should praise (the benefactor), and whoever does not do so has certainly shown ingratitude."

Brief Explanation
It is also included in Islamic teachings that a person should always remember his benefactor and make every possible effort to repay his favor. If he is unable to give anything in return, then at the very least, he should utter good words for his benefactor. He should pray to Allah Ta'ala for him, praise him in his absence, and if he deems it appropriate, mention his favor in front of others as well. Now, if a person cannot even do this much, then how does he repay anyone’s favor? If such a person is not called ungrateful and forgetful of favors, then what else should he be called?
