Brief Explanation
Explanation: -
In this blessed hadith, the virtue of making things easy for someone in financial difficulty is mentioned: that whoever makes things easy for an indebted person in hardship regarding the repayment of a debt—does not demand repayment harshly, continues to grant respite, or even forgives the debt altogether—then Allah, exalted is He, will grant ease to such a person in both this world and the Hereafter. Allah, exalted is He, says:

﴿وَإِن كَانَ ذُو عُسْرَةٍ فَنَظِرَةٌ إِلَىٰ مَيْسَرَةٍ وَأَن تَصَدَّقُوا خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ﴾ (al-Baqarah: 280)
“And if the debtor is in hardship, then [let there be] postponement until [a time of] ease. But if you remit [it] as charity, it is better for you, if you only knew.”

The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “A man passed away, and he was asked: ‘What good deed did you do?’ He remembered by himself, or it was made to be remembered to him (by Allah), so he said: ‘I used to overlook (strictness) in collecting coins and silver (debts), and I used to grant respite to the one in hardship (in repaying debt).’ So Allah forgave him.” [بخاري : 2391 مسلم : 1560 اين ماجه : 2420]

Similarly, in another hadith, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Among those before you, there was a man whom Allah forgave (merely) because he was lenient when selling, lenient when buying, and lenient when demanding (his due).” [ترمذي : 1320 ، حسن]

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam made supplication: “May Allah have mercy on the servant who is gentle when selling, gentle when buying, and gentle when demanding (the repayment of a debt).” [بخاري : 2076]

Once, Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah radi Allahu anhu sought out one of his debtors, but the man hid himself. Then one day he found him, and the man said: “I am in great hardship.” Abu Qatadah said: “By Allah, are you truly in hardship?” He replied: “By Allah! (I am truly in hardship).” Abu Qatadah said: “Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say: ‘Whoever wishes that Allah saves him from the hardships of the Day of Resurrection, let him grant respite to the one in hardship, or forgive (the debt).’” [مسلم : 1563]

The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam also said: “Whoever grants respite to a person in hardship, or forgives his debt, Allah will grant him shade under His Throne on the Day when there will be no shade except His shade.” [ترمذي : 1306 ، صحيح]

Sayyiduna Buraydah radi Allahu anhu says: I heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say: “Whoever grants respite to a person in hardship, for him is the reward of giving double the amount of the debt in charity every day.” Then I heard him say: “Whoever grants respite to a person in hardship, for him is the reward of giving double the amount of the debt in charity every day.” He says: I said: “O Messenger of Allah! I heard you say that whoever grants respite to a person in hardship, for him is the reward of giving double the amount of the debt in charity every day. Then I heard you say the same again.” The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said to him: “Before the due date of repayment, he will receive the reward of giving the equivalent of the debt in charity every day, and after the due date, if he grants further respite, he will receive double the reward.” [Ahmad: 360/5, and its chain is authentic]
