Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever disgraces and humiliates Allah's ruler, Allah will disgrace and humiliate him, and whoever honors Allah's ruler, Allah will honor him."

Brief Explanation
Explanation: - The meaning is that whoever disgraces and humiliates a righteous king or any person holding an important position in this world, Allah will humiliate and disgrace him. And whoever honors a righteous king or any person holding an important position, Allah, the Exalted, will increase his honor and dignity. From this, it is understood that it is not permissible to insult a person holding any important position; rather, he should be honored, provided that he is fulfilling his responsibilities according to the Shari‘ah revealed by Allah, because he is a representative of Allah. Allah, the Exalted, has placed an important responsibility on his shoulders and has honored him with dignity.
As Allah, the Exalted, says: ﴿قُلِاللَّهُمَّمَالِكَالْمُلْكِتُؤْتِيالْمُلْكَمَنتَشَاءُوَتَنزِعُالْمُلْكَمِمَّنتَشَاءُوَتُعِزُّمَنتَشَاءُوَتُذِلُّمَنتَشَاءُبِيَدِكَالْخَيْرُإِنَّكَعَلَىٰكُلِّشَيْءٍقَدِيرٌ﴾ (Aal ‘Imran: 26) “Say: O Allah! Owner of Sovereignty! You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humiliate whom You will. In Your hand is all good. Surely, You have power over all things.”
Due to human nature, some shortcomings or mistakes may occur from him as well. Therefore, if he commits any mistake, it should be corrected with a spirit of goodwill, not by going around disgracing and humiliating him among the people. This is what Islam teaches us.
Please also consider the background of the hadith: Ziyad bin Kusayb ‘Adawi says that I was sitting with Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah radi Allahu anhu near the pulpit of Ibn ‘Amir. Ibn ‘Amir was delivering a sermon and he was wearing fine (thin) clothes. (Upon seeing this) Abu Bilal said: Look at our leader, he is wearing the clothes of the wicked. Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah radi Allahu anhu said: Remain silent, for I heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say: “Whoever disgraces Allah’s authority on earth, Allah will disgrace him.” [ترمذي : 2224، حسن ]
