Muhammad bin Ja'far, narrating with his chain of transmission, says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever sets out on a path in search of knowledge, Allah will lead him on a path to Paradise. And whoever is left behind by his knowledge, his lineage will not bring him forward."

Brief Explanation
Explanation: The meaning is that the person whose evil deeds hold him back on the Day of Resurrection—that is, deprive him of Paradise—his lineage and ancestry will be of no benefit to him. For with Allah, success and salvation depend on faith (iman) and righteous deeds (amal salih). Whoever possesses these two things is successful, and whoever is deprived of them is unsuccessful, no matter how noble his family background may be. In this regard, the examples of the wife and son of Nuh (alayhis salam), the wife of Lut (alayhis salam), the father of Ibrahim (alayhis salam), and Abu Jahl and Abu Lahab are before us: all these people were, by lineage, very close to the Prophets, but due to the absence of faith and righteous deeds, they were deprived of success in the Hereafter. In contrast, the wife of Pharaoh, and likewise Sayyiduna Bilal al-Habashi, Salman al-Farsi, and Sayyiduna Suhayb al-Rumi (radi Allahu anhu)—despite not having any familial or ancestral relation to the Prophets—became successful, because they possessed the wealth of faith and righteous deeds.
The Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) made a clear declaration before his own clan. Thus, Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radi Allahu anhu) reports that when this verse was revealed: ﴿وَأَنذِرْعَشِيرَتَكَالْأَقْرَبِينَ﴾ (al-Shu‘ara: 214) “And warn your closest relatives,” the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “O assembly of Quraysh! Secure your souls with Allah, for I can do nothing for you before Allah. O Banu Abd al-Muttalib! I can do nothing for you before Allah. O Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib! I can do nothing for you before Allah. O Safiyyah, the aunt of the Messenger of Allah! I can do nothing for you before Allah. O Fatimah (radi Allahu anha), daughter of the Messenger of Allah! Ask me for whatever (worldly wealth) you wish, but I can do nothing for you before Allah.” [مسلم : 206]
