Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever is gentle with my Ummah, Allah Almighty will be gentle with him, and whoever is harsh with my Ummah, Allah Almighty will be harsh with him.”

Brief Explanation
Explanation: From this hadith, it becomes evident how compassionate and merciful the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was towards his ummah, and how much he cared for his ummah. Allah Ta’ala’s statement is:
“Indeed, there has come to you a Messenger from among yourselves; grievous to him is your suffering; [he is] concerned over you and to the believers is kind and merciful.”
It is clearer than the sun that the relationship between you and your ummah, and the ummah’s relationship with you, is far greater than ordinary human relationships. The hardship of the ummah was extremely burdensome for you; thus, you supplicated for that ruler and leader who deals gently with your ummah, that Allah Ta’ala also deals gently with him in this world and the Hereafter. However, for the ruler and leader who is unduly harsh upon your ummah, you supplicated against him, that Allah Ta’ala afflicts him with hardship just as he has put your ummah into hardship.
