Brief Explanation
Explanation: Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu mentioned the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, that he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to say: "Woe to the Arabs from an evil that has drawn near. From that blind, mute, deaf tribulation (fitnah) in which the one sitting will be better than the one standing, the one standing will be better than the one walking, and the one walking will be better than the one striving (to ignite the tribulation), and for the one striving, there will be destruction from Allah on the Day of Resurrection." [ابن حبان : 6705 الفتن للمروزي : 467، حسن]
The people of knowledge have said that in this hadith there is an indication towards that tribulation (fitnah) in Arabia which occurred in the last period of the caliphate of Sayyiduna Uthman ibn Affan radi Allahu anhu, and which, in the form of mutual division and discord among the Muslims, rebellion and insurrection, and insecurity and civil war, not only compelled Sayyiduna Uthman radi Allahu anhu to drink from the cup of martyrdom, but its sequence continued afterwards as well, in the form of the conflict between Sayyiduna Ali radi Allahu anhu and Sayyiduna Muawiyah radi Allahu anhu, and persisted for a long time, from which Islam and the Muslims suffered immense harm. And Allah knows best.
