Hadith 274

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Souls are like gathered armies; those who became acquainted with one another (in the realm of souls) feel affection for each other here (in the world), and those who remained unfamiliar with one another there are opposed to each other here."

Brief Explanation
Explanation:
The well-known and apparent meaning of the mentioned hadith is that when Allah Ta'ala created the souls, they were gathered together in the realm of souls (Alam al-Arwah) like armies. There, those who became acquainted and recognized each other, when they came to this world, began to love and be affectionate towards one another. And those who did not become acquainted there, when they came here, remained strangers to each other, and even began to dislike one another. From this, it is also understood that souls have their own existence and that they possess intellect and speech.
