Sayyiduna Ya’la bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both) came running to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). One of them reached him (first), so he placed his hand on his neck. Then the other also came, so he placed his (other) hand on his neck. Then he kissed him, then he kissed the other, and then said: “O Allah! I love both of them, so You also love them.” (And he said:) “O people! Indeed, children are a cause of miserliness, ignorance, and cowardice.” (And he said:) “Indeed, the last land to be trodden by the Lord of the worlds is ‘Waj’.”

Brief Explanation
Explanation—Three points have been stated in these hadiths:
① The virtue of Sayyiduna Hasan and Husayn (radi Allahu anhuma): When they came running, the Prophet of Mercy (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) embraced them, kissed them, and supplicated for them.
② Declaring children to be a trial, it is stated that they become a cause of miserliness, ignorance, and cowardice. This is because a person, for the sake of his children, fears and shows laziness in going out for jihad, thinking, “If I am killed, what will become of my children?” Thus, he falls prey to cowardice. For the sake of his children, he quarrels with people, displays ignorance, abandons justice and fairness; thus, children become a cause of ignorance for him. And for the sake of his children, he accumulates wealth and does not spend it in the way of Allah, thinking it will benefit his children; thus, he becomes miserly. In this way, children become a cause of miserliness.
③ The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) informed that the last land to be trodden (by Islam) was Wajj. Wajj is a valley in Ta’if. And this happened in such a way that the last battle with the polytheists in the time of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), in which they were defeated, took place in “Wajj.” After that, the Battle of Tabuk occurred, but there was no fighting in it.
