Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The imam is responsible (for the prayer), and the muezzin is entrusted (with the prayer time). O Allah! Guide the imams and forgive the muezzins."

Brief Explanation
Explanation: In this blessed hadith, the responsibility of the imam and the muezzin and the supplication of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam for them is mentioned. While describing the responsibility of the imam and the muezzin, he said that the imam is responsible (for the prayer). That is, he is responsible for ensuring the completion of the prayer for his followers (muqtadis). It is his responsibility to observe cleanliness and purity, to lead the prayer at its proper time, to arrange the rows of the followers correctly, to carefully observe the conditions and etiquettes of the prayer, to perform the prayer according to the Sunnah, to include his followers in supplication when making du‘a, and to be mindful of his followers while leading the prayer. Then it was said that the muezzin is trustworthy (amin). Amin is the person whom people trust. The muezzin is called trustworthy because people rely on his call for performing prayer, for taking suhoor and iftar, and for other timed acts of worship; therefore, it is also his duty to be conscious of his responsibility.
A supplication has been made for the imam and the muezzin that Allah, the Exalted, may grant guidance to the noble imams, guide them to the straight path, so that they themselves perform this important obligation of prayer according to the Sunnah and also lead others according to the Sunnah, because they are leaders for their followers and many prayers are connected to their prayer. For the forgiveness of the muezzins, this supplication was made: that if any shortcoming or excess occurs from them, or if they are deceived regarding the time of the adhan, then O Allah! Forgive them.
