163 - أنا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُوسَى السِّمْسَارُ، أنا أَبُو زَيْدٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْفَرَبْرِيُّ، أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْبُخَارِيُّ، نا مُسَدَّدُ، نا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنِي قَيْسٌ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ: أَشَارَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَدِهِ نَحْوَ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ: «الْإِيمَانُ هَا هُنَا» مُخْتَصَرٌ
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed with his hand towards Yemen and said: "Faith is in that direction." This narration is brief.
Brief Explanation
Explanation:
In these ahadith, the virtue of Yemen and the people of Yemen has been mentioned. These people entered the fold of Islam purely out of desire and happiness, without any war or hardship. The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam praised them and said that faith is with the people of Yemen, jurisprudence (fiqh) is with the people of Yemen, and wisdom is also with the people of Yemen. By "the people of Yemen" is meant the Muslims of correct creed from there, whether they were from the era of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam or from any later era—they are all deserving of this virtue. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has mentioned even more virtues of Yemen and its people. Please observe:
① The people of Yemen are soft-hearted and tender-hearted. (Bukhari: 4390)
② The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam made supplication: "O Allah! Bless our Sham, O Allah! Bless our Yemen." (Bukhari: 7095)
③ The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam looked towards Yemen and said: "O Allah! Turn their hearts (towards us)." (Tirmidhi: 3934 Hasan)
④ When the verse ﴿فَسَوْفَ يَأْتِي اللَّهُ بِقَوْمٍ يُحِبُّهُمْ وَيُحِبُّونَهُ﴾ (al-Ma'idah: 54) "So soon Allah will bring a people whom He loves and they love Him" was revealed, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said to Sayyiduna Abu Musa radi Allahu anhu: "This refers to your people, the people of Yemen." [حاكم : 312/2 دلائل النبوة للبيهقي : 2084،صحيح]
⑤ On one occasion, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "The people of Yemen are coming to you like pieces of clouds; they are the best people on earth." An Ansari companion asked the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam: Are they better than us? The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam remained silent. He asked again: Are they better than us, O Messenger of Allah? The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam remained silent. When he asked a third time, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam softly said: "Except for you." [أحمد : 84/4 ،حسن]
