1488 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْبَزَّازُ، أبنا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ، أبنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ غَالِبٍ، ثنا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ: «اللَّهُمَّ أَذَقْتَ أَوَّلَ قُرَيْشٍ نَكَالًا فَأَذِقْ آخِرَهُمْ نَوَالًا»
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to supplicate: "O Allah! (At Badr and Ahzab) You made the former people of Quraysh taste punishment, so now bestow favor and honor upon those who came after them."

In this blessed hadith, there is mention of the Prophet’s (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) supplication of mercy for the Quraysh, that the earlier people of Quraysh had already tasted defeat and destruction at Badr and Ahzab due to their opposition to Allah and His Messenger. Similarly, they were also afflicted by calamities such as drought and famine. Therefore, now that those who came after them have been enriched with the blessing of Islam, You (O Allah) bestow upon them Your bounty and honor.
