Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Indeed, successful is the one who purifies it.” ( al-Shams: 9) And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “O Allah! Grant my soul its piety and purify it, for You are the best to purify it. You are its Guardian and Master.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in prayer at that time.

Brief Explanation
Benefit: Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam radi Allahu anhu says that I say to you just as the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said; he used to say: "O Allah! Indeed, I seek refuge in You from incapacity, laziness, cowardice, miserliness, severe old age, and the punishment of the grave. O Allah! Grant my soul its piety (taqwa) and purify it, for You are the best to purify it. You are its Guardian and Master. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not fear, from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a supplication that is not answered." [مسلم : 2722]
