Hadith 1468

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "O Allah! Indeed, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that is of no benefit, from deeds that do not ascend to Your presence, from a heart that does not fear (You), and from a supplication that is not heard."

Brief Explanation
Explanation: -
① Seeking refuge with Allah from these four things mentioned in the hadith is recommended and a praiseworthy act.
② The apparent meaning is not intended; rather, the purpose is: O Allah! Make my knowledge beneficial, make my heart humble and submissive, accept my supplications, and make my soul content.
③ The Prophet’s seeking refuge was for the instruction of the ummah and to express servitude, otherwise he already possessed this protection. In this is an indication that a servant should always fear Allah and remain needy before Allah.
④ Beneficial knowledge (ʿilm nāfiʿ) refers to acting in accordance with knowledge, because the very first benefit of knowledge should be to the scholar himself, then to others, such as through preaching and teaching, etc.
⑤ The acceptance of supplication means attaining reward for it, not necessarily that the exact request is fulfilled, because in many matters this is not possible.
⑥ The meaning of the soul not being satisfied is that the soul is diseased and greedy, and eagerness for reward is a good thing. And Allah knows best.
