Brief Explanation
Explanation: -
① Abu Idris Khawlani rahimahullah says that I entered the mosque of Damascus and saw a young man with shining teeth; people were gathered around him. Whenever they differed about something, they would refer to him and turn to his opinion and decision. I asked: Who is this? It was said: This is our master Mu'adh ibn Jabal radi Allahu anhu. Then the next morning I came early and saw that he had arrived before me and was performing prayer. I waited for him, and when he finished his prayer, I came before him, greeted him with salam, and then said: By Allah! I love you for the sake of Allah. He said: Really? I said: Yes. So he took hold of the edge of my cloak and pulled it towards himself and said: Glad tidings for you! I heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say: “Allah said: My love is obligatory for those who love each other for My sake, who sit together for My sake, who visit each other for My sake, and who spend on each other for My sake.”

In this hadith, the virtue of loving each other for the pleasure of Allah, meeting one another, and mutual cooperation is mentioned. Our Shaykh Zubair Ali Zai rahimahullah says:

② Loving each other for the sake of Allah is an act of immense virtue, because in this way Allah ta‘ala begins to love both of His servants, and fortunate is the person whom Allah loves.

③ In the Book and Sunnah, the word “love” (mahabbah) is used for love of Allah and His Messenger, but the word “ishq” (passionate love) is not used at all, whereas some people of innovation, relying on fabricated and rejected narrations, use the word “ishq.” However, even in those narrations, the word “ishq” is not used for Allah and His Messenger. It should be clear that in Arabic language and literature, the definition of “ishq” is “ishq with lustful desire.” (Al-Ittihaf, p. 490)
