Brief Explanation
Explanation: In this, besides the virtue of repentance (tawbah), there is also encouragement to have a good opinion (husn al-zann) of Allah. However, just as hoping for a harvest without plowing and sowing the seeds is foolishness, in the same way, attaching good hopes to Allah without performing righteous deeds (a'mal salihah) is also ignorance. This is, in effect, an indirect encouragement towards action, because without action, hope for anything cannot be justified. And it is a natural fact that one who performs good deeds will have good hopes from Allah, and one who performs evil deeds will have bad hopes. Accordingly, Allah’s dealing with His servants will also be in accordance with this: good for those who have good hopes, and bad for those who have bad hopes, because both are based on their own actions, and the reward or punishment will be according to those actions.
