Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of the Qur'an is like that of a camel whose leg is tied; if its owner keeps it tied, he will keep hold of it, and if he lets it go, it will run away."

Brief Explanation
Explanation: The narration in Bukhari and Muslim is as follows: "The example of the one who recites the Qur'an is like that of a person whose camels are tied; if he takes care of them, he will keep them restrained, and if he lets them loose, they will go away (run off)." The meaning is that as long as the recitation of the Noble Qur'an continues, it will remain memorized, and when its recitation is abandoned, it will be forgotten. Therefore, the Noble Qur'an should be recited continuously, especially those who have memorized it (huffaz kiram) should, after memorizing, recite it daily with regularity, because if the daily portion (manzil) is not recited regularly, the Noble Qur'an is forgotten.
