Mujahid says that I accompanied Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) between Makkah and Madinah (on the way), and he did not narrate to me any hadith from the Prophet (peace be upon him) except this single hadith, and in it was: "The example of the believer." This hadith is narrated in Hasan bin Abdur Rahman bin Khallad Ramahurmuzi's book "Kitab al-Amthal" with a chain from Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Musa from Sulaiman bin Ayyub, and in it is: "(The example of the strong believer) is like a date palm, and (the example of the weak believer) is like a young plant of a crop."

Brief Explanation
Explanation: -
The meaning is that a strong believer is firm in his faith like a date palm tree; winds and storms may blow, tempests may come, but the date palm tree does not bend. This is exactly the state of a strong believer: no matter what trials come, he remains steadfast in his faith. And just as every part of the date palm tree is put to use and nothing goes to waste, similarly, this believer remains beneficial to others in every circumstance. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhu that the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “The example of a believer is that of a green tree whose leaves do not fall.” I thought in my heart to say that it is the date palm tree, but since I was young, I felt shy to speak. Then the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “It is the date palm tree.” Sayyiduna Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhu says that later I mentioned this to Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu, and he said: If you had said it, I would have been happier than receiving such-and-such wealth. [بخاري : 6132]

A weak believer is like that small plant which grows in the field, which bends with the winds but then straightens up again; due to its softness and gentleness, it does not break. Similarly, when calamities befall a weak believer, he is temporarily distressed, but while exercising patience, he does not lose hope in the grace and mercy of Allah Ta’ala, until the calamities are removed and he once again, in happiness, expresses gratitude to Allah Ta’ala.
