Brief Explanation
Explanation:
The complete hadith is as follows: Sayyiduna Amr ibn al-As radi Allahu anhu says that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam sent a message to me and instructed me to bring my clothes and weapons and come to him. So I did as instructed. I came to him while he was performing ablution (wudu). He raised his gaze towards me and then lowered it, and said: “Amr! I wish to appoint you as the commander of an army, and Allah will grant you spoils of war (ghanimah). I have a great desire for good wealth for you.” I said: I did not become Muslim out of desire for wealth; rather, I became Muslim out of desire for Islam so that I could be in the company of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. Then the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: “Amr! How excellent is lawful wealth (halal mal) for a righteous man.”

From this hadith, it is understood that lawful wealth is a great blessing of Allah Ta’ala for a righteous person. It proves to be helpful in performing righteous deeds, and in reality, the acts of worship that a person can perform in a state of affluence—such as charity and almsgiving (sadaqah wa khayrat), jihad, and the teaching and propagation of religion—are extremely difficult to do in a state of poverty. Therefore, this wealth is indeed a great blessing from Allah Ta’ala.
