1266 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ، إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ الْعَسْقَلَانِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الْقَيْسَرَانِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْخَرَائِطِيُّ، ثنا سَعْدَانُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، ثنا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ جَمِيلٍ، ثنا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمُحَجَّلِ، عَنْ مَعْفَسِ بْنِ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حِطَّانَ، عَنِ ابْنِ الشَّنِيَّةِ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ وَحْدَهُ قَاعِدًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ مُحْتَبِيًا بِكِسَاءٍ مِنْ صُوفٍ فَقَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «الْوَحْدَةُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْجَلِيسِ السُّوءِ، وَالْجَلِيسُ الصَّالِحُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْوَحْدَةِ، وَإِمْلَاءُ الْخَيْرِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ السُّكُوتِ، وَالسُّكُوتُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ إِمْلَاءِ الشَّرِّ»
Ibn Shaniyyah says that I saw Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) sitting alone in the mosque, wrapped in a woolen cloak with a border. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Solitude is better than a bad companion, and a good companion is better than solitude. Dictating a good word is better than silence, and silence is better than dictating a bad word."
