1205 - أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ، أنا الْقَاضِي أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، نا مُوسَى، هُوَ ابْنُ هَارُونَ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ زُنْبُورٍ، نا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْهَادِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ أُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتِ عُقْبَةَ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " لَا يُرَخَّصُ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنَ الْكَذِبِ إِلَّا فِي ثَلَاثٍ، كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: لَا أَعْتَدُّهُ كَذِبًا: الرَّجُلُ يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ يَقُولُ الْقَوْلَ يُرِيدُ بِهِ الصَّلَاحَ، وَالرَّجُلُ يَقُولُ الْقَوْلَ فِي الْحَرْبِ، وَالرَّجُلُ يُحَدِّثُ امْرَأَتَهُ، وَالْمَرْأَةُ تُحَدِّثُ زَوْجَهَا "
Sayyida Umm Kulthum bint Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with her) says that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "There is no concession for lying except in three things." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: "I do not count these (three) as liars: the person who reconciles between people and says something (untrue) for the sake of reconciliation, and the person who says something (untrue) in war, and the person who says something (untrue) to his wife, and the wife who says something (untrue) to her husband."

Sayyidah Umm Kulthum bint Uqbah ibn Abi Mu'it radi Allahu anha narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say: "He is not a liar who reconciles between people, so (for this purpose) he says a good word or conveys a good word." She further states that I never heard him sallallahu alayhi wa sallam grant people permission to lie in anything except for three cases: in reconciling between people, when a husband says something to his wife, and when a wife says something to her husband.[الادب المفرد : 385 ، وسنده صحيح]
