Hadith 1089

Sha'bi says that the scribe of Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to me, he said that Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote a letter to Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) asking him to write and send a hadith which he had heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So he wrote to him: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Indeed, Allah has disliked three things for you: idle talk, wasting wealth, and asking too many questions."

Brief Explanation
Explanation:
In these ahadith, three matters disliked by Allah Ta'ala are mentioned:

① Qeel wa Qaal: That is, futile and useless argumentation which brings neither any worldly benefit nor any benefit in the Hereafter. Allah Ta'ala has prohibited this because refraining from meaningless talk and futile disputes is a characteristic of a believer.

② Wasting of wealth (Idha'at al-maal): That is, extravagance—spending wealth in places where none of the Shari'ah objectives of this world or the Hereafter are achieved. Idha'at al-maal means to squander wealth, and it is a great folly and foolishness of a person to spend his wealth in places where there is no benefit in spending.

③ Excessive questioning (Kathrat as-sual): By this is meant, firstly, that one should not frequently ask people for their wealth, i.e., begging; and secondly, that one should not ask such useless and pointless questions which have no relation to guidance.
