1046 - أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُمَرَ التُّجِيبِيُّ، أبنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ جَامِعٍ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ حَارِثَةَ، قَالَ: دَخَلْنَا عَلَى خَبَّابٍ نَعُودُهُ وَفِي بَيْتِهِ حَائِطٌ يُبْنَى، فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ يُؤْجَرُ فِي نَفَقَتِهِ كُلِّهَا، إِلَّا شَيْئًا جَعَلَهُ فِي التُّرَابِ أَوِ الْبِنَاءِ»
Arthi says that we went to visit Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) when he was ill, and a wall was being constructed in his house. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "Indeed, a believer is rewarded for all his expenses except for what he spends on mud or building construction."

Qais bin Abi Hazim says that we went to visit (for illness) our master Khabbab radi Allahu anhu. He had seven cauterization marks on his stomach. Then he said: Our companions who passed away during the time of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam departed from here in such a state that the world could not diminish their reward in the least, nor was there any deficiency in their deeds. Whereas we have acquired so much of the world that we have found no place to spend it except in the earth (i.e., we began constructing buildings). And if the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had not forbidden us from supplicating for death, I would have supplicated for it. (The narrator said:) Then we visited him again, and he was building his wall. He said: "Indeed, a Muslim receives reward for everything he spends, except for that which he puts into the earth." [بخاري : 5672]
