Hadith 1269
1269 - قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ الْمُنْكَدِرِ يُحَدَّثُ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، يَقُولُ مِثْلَهُ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ: فَحَثَي لِي ثَلَاثًا، وَزَادَ ابْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، قَالَ جَابِرٌ: ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ بَعْدُ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: أَعْطِنِي فَلَمْ يُعْطِنِي، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ، فَقُلْتُ: أَعْطِنِي، فَلَمْ يُعْطِنِي، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ، فَقُلْتُ: أَعْطِنِي، فَلَمْ يُعْطِنِي، فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ إِنِّي سَأَلْتُكَ أَنْ تُعْطِيَنِي فَلَمْ تُعْطِنِي، ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُكَ أَنْ تُعْطِيَنِي، فَلَمْ تُعْطِنِي، فَإِمَّا أَنْ تُعْطِيَنِي، وَإِمَّا أَنْ تَبْخَلَ عَنِّي، فَقَالَ: «قُلْتُ تَبْخَلُ عَنِّي، وَأَيُّ الدَّاءِ أَدْوَأُ مِنَ الْبُخْلِ؟ فَمَا مَنَعْتُكَ مِنْ مَرَّةٍ إِلَّا وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُعْطِيَكَ»
The same narration is transmitted with another chain, however, in it are these words: "Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) joined both his palms together and gave me three times." These words have been narrated by the narrator named Ibn al-Munkadir. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: After that, I came to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him: Give me something, but he did not give me anything. I came to him again and said: Give me something, but he did not give me anything. I came to him again and said: Give me something, but he did not give me anything. I said: O Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him)! I have asked you for something, give me something, but you did not give me anything. Then I asked you to give me something, but you did not give me anything. Either you will give me something or you will act miserly towards me. So Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Are you saying that you will act miserly towards me? What disease is more curable than miserliness? I refused you once only because I wanted to give you.
