Hadith 1210
1210 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا ابْنُ عَجْلَانَ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَي النَّبِيِّ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، عِنْدِي دِينَارٌ فَقَالَ: «أَنْفِقْهُ عَلَي نَفْسِكَ»، قَالَ: عِنْدِي آخَرُ، قَالَ: «أَنْفِقْهُ عَلَي وَلَدِكَ» ، قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عِنْدِي آخَرُ، قَالَ: «أَنْفِقْهُ عَلَي أَهْلِكَ» ، قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عِنْدِي آخَرُ، قَالَ: «أَنْفِقْهُ عَلَي خَادِمِكَ» ، قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عِنْدِي آخَرُ، قَالَ: «أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ» ، قَالَ سَعِيدٌ: ثُمَّ يَقُولُ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: إِذَا حَدَّثَ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ، يَقُولُ وَلَدُكَ: أَنْفِقْ عَلَيَّ إِلَي مَنْ تَكِلُنِي، تَقُولُ زَوْجَتُكَ: أَنْفِقْ عَلَيَّ أَوْ طَلِّقْنِي، يَقُولُ خَادِمُكَ: أَنْفِقْ عَلَيَّ أَوْ بِعْنِي "
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have one dinar (what should I do with it)?" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Spend it on yourself." He said, "I have another one." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Spend it on your children!" He said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have another one." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Spend it on your wife." He said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have another one." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Spend it on your servant!" He said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have more." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "You know best (on whom to spend it)." The narrator named Sa'id says: When Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) would narrate this hadith, he used to say: Your child will say, 'Spend on me, to whom are you handing me over?' Your wife will say, 'Spend on me, otherwise divorce me.' Your servant will say, 'Spend on me or sell me.'
