Hadith 1185
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When Allah Almighty issues a decree in the heavens, the angels lower their heads in submission to His command and beat their wings, as if a chain is struck upon a rock. When the fear is lifted from their hearts, they ask: 'What has your Lord said?' The others reply: 'He has spoken the truth, and He is Most High, Most Great.' Then the eavesdropper among them hears something, and the eavesdroppers are positioned one above the other." Sufyan demonstrated how they are positioned one above the other. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "So one of them hears a word, which he conveys to the one below him, and then he conveys it to the one below him, until it reaches a sorcerer or soothsayer, who then utters it. Sometimes a shooting star strikes him before he can convey it to the one below, and sometimes he conveys it before the shooting star strikes him. He mixes with it a hundred lies. Then it is said: Did this person not say to us on such and such a day that such and such would happen? He said such and such, and that is the very word he heard from the heavens, so the truth from the heavens is affirmed."
