Hadith 1114
1114 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا زِيَادُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، سَمِعَهُ مِنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ يُحَدِّثُهُ، عَنْ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ، قَالَ: أَتَي أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ رَجُلٌ فَارِسِيٌّ، وَامْرَأَةٌ لَهُ يَخْتَصِمَانِ فِي ابْنٍ لَهُمَا، فَقَالَ الْفَارِسِيُّ: يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ هَذَا بِيبَرُ، قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: لَأَقْضِيَنَّ بَيْنَكُمَا بِمَا شَهِدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَضَي بِهِ، يَا غُلَامُ، هَذَا أَبُوكَ وَهَذِهِ أُمُّكَ، فَاخْتَرْ أَيَّهُمَا شِئْتَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: فَشَهِدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ وَامْرَأَةٌ يَخْتَصِمَانِ فِي ابْنٍ لَهُمَا، فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ابْنِي يَسْقِينِي مِنْ بِئْرِ أَبِي عِنَبَةَ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يَا غُلَامُ هَذَا أَبُوكَ، وَهَذِهِ أُمُّكَ فَاخْتَرْ أَيَّهُمَا شِئْتَ»
Abu Maymunah narrates: A Persian man and his wife came to Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him); both were arguing about their son. The Persian said: O Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), this is our son. So Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will give you the same decision that I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) give. O boy! This is your father and this is your mother; you may choose whichever of them you wish. Then Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I was present with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man and his wife brought a case before him regarding their son. The man said: O Messenger of Allah! This is my son, who gives me water from the well of Abu ‘Unbah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “O boy! This is your father and this is your mother; you may choose whichever of them you wish.”
