Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Indeed, when Allah the Exalted bestows a blessing upon a people in the morning or evening, some among them deny it and say: ‘Rain has descended upon us because of such-and-such star.’” The narrator named Muhammad bin Ibrahim says: I narrated this tradition to Sa‘id bin al-Musayyib, so he informed me: He heard this narration from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him). However, he told us what was related by the one who was present with Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) when he supplicated for rain for the people. So Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Sayyiduna ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him)! O uncle of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! How much of such-and-such star remains? So Sayyiduna ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The experts in this knowledge say that after it falls, it will remain on the horizon for seven days in the direction of its width. The narrator says: Before seven days had passed, rain descended upon us.
