Hadith 1001
1001 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْعُمَرِيُّ، عَنْ مَوْلًي لِأَبِي رُهْمٍ، قَالَ: لَقِيَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ امْرَأَةً مُتَطَيِّبَةً، فَقَالَ: أَيْنَ تُرِيدِينَ يَا أَمَةَ الْجَبَّارِ؟ قَالَتِ الْمَسْجِدَ، قَالَ: وَلَهُ تَطَيَّبْتِ؟ قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: ارْجِعِي فَاغْتَسِلِي، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ: «أَيُّمَا امْرَأَةٍ تَطَيَّبَتْ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَتْ تُرِيدُ الْمَسْجِدَ لَمْ تُقْبَلْ لَهَا صَلَاةٌ، وَلَا كَذَا، وَلَا كَذَا حَتَّي تَرْجِعَ فَتَغْتَسِلَ غُسْلَهَا مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ»
Asim bin Ubaidullah Umari narrates: Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) met a woman who was scented with perfume, so he asked: O slave-woman of Allah! Where are you going? She replied: To the mosque. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Have you applied perfume for the mosque? She replied: Yes. So Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Go back and wash it off! For I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Any woman who applies perfume and then goes out intending to go to the mosque, her prayer is not accepted. And this does not happen, and that does not happen, until she returns and bathes as she would bathe after sexual impurity (i.e., she washes off all traces of the perfume completely)."
