Sufyan says: Zuhri narrated to me those traditions in which (the ruling of ablution being required after) eating something cooked on fire is established. Among these narrations, some contained the ruling that ablution is required in such a case, and some contained the ruling that ablution is not required in such a case, so these narrations became mixed up for me. The narrations from which it is established that ablution becomes obligatory after eating something cooked on fire are transmitted from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through Abu Salamah, Umar bin Abdul Aziz, and Sayyida Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her), and from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), and from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him). Sufyan says: Zuhri narrated to me a narration from Ali bin Abdullah bin Abbas from his father, and also narrated to me a hadith from Ja'far bin Amr bin Umayyah al-Damri from his father. (The narrator states) Once, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) cut meat from the shoulder of a goat and ate it, then he went to pray, performed the prayer, and did not perform ablution again. Another narrator says: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) ate meat and performed the prayer, and he did not perform ablution again. I have no doubt that Zuhri narrated these traditions from both of these gentlemen. My doubt is that I do not know which wording is transmitted from whom. Sufyan says: Zuhri was of the opinion that ablution is obligatory after eating something cooked on fire.
