918 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ قَيْسًا، يَقُولُ: حَدَّثَنِي عَدِيُّ بْنُ عُمَيْرَةَ الْكِنْدِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولَ: «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَنِ اسْتَعْمَلْنَاهُ مِنْكُمْ عَلَي عَمَلٍ فَلْيَأَتِ بِقَلِيلِهِ وَكَثِيرِهِ، فَمَنْ كَتَمَنَا خَيْطًا أَوْ مِخْيَطًا فَمَا سِوَاهُ، فَهُوَ غُلُولٌ يَأْتِي بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ» ، فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ أَسْوَدُ قَصِيرٌ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، اقْبَلْ مِنِّي عَمَلَكَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «وَمَا ذَاكَ؟» ، قَالَ: الَّذِي قُلتَ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «وَأَنَا أَقُولُ الْآنَ مَنِ اسْتَعْمَلْنَاهُ مِنْكُمْ عَلَي عَمَلٍ فَلْيَأْتِ بِقَلِيلِهِ وَكَثِيرِهِ، فَمَا أُوتِيَ مِنْهُ أَخَذَ، وَمَا نُهِيَ عَنْهُ انْتَهَي»
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin ‘Umayrah al-Kindi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “O people! Whomever among you we appoint as an official for any task, let him bring whatever he receives, whether little or much. Whoever conceals from us anything, even a thread or a needle or anything beyond that, it will be an act of betrayal, and he will bring it with him on the Day of Resurrection.” A short-statured, dark-skinned man from among the Ansar stood up—his image is as if before my eyes even now. He said: O Messenger of Allah! I withdraw from the task for which you appointed me as an official. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “Why?” He replied: Because of what you have just said. So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Even now I say: Whomever among you we appoint as an official for any task, let him bring everything, whether little or much. Let him take what is given to him, and refrain from what is withheld from him.”
