Sayyiduna Dakin bin Sa’id Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We, four hundred horsemen, came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). We asked him for food, so he (peace be upon him) said: “O ‘Umar! Go, feed them and give them gifts.” He (‘Umar) said: O Messenger of Allah! I have only a few sa’ of dates, which will suffice only for my family’s food for this season. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: You obey and submit. So Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I obey and submit. The narrator says: Then Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went and came to his (grain room), took out the key from the place where he tied his waist-wrapper, opened its door, and said to those present: You people come inside. I was the last person to enter. I also took food from there. I noticed, and there were as many dates as the young she-camel that has been weaned from milk.
