Hadith 870
Rabi’ bin Sabrah al-Juhani narrates from his father: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had initially permitted us to contract temporary marriage (mut’ah). When we came to Mecca, my cousin and I went out and approached a young woman. I had a cloak and my cousin also had a cloak, which was better than mine, but I was younger than my cousin. The woman looked at us and said: “One cloak is like the other cloak,” then she chose me, so I gave her my cloak. Then I stayed with her for as long as Allah willed. Then I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and found him standing between the door of the Ka’bah and the well of Zamzam. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “We had permitted you to contract mut’ah in this manner, but now, if anyone has such a woman, he should let her go. Now Allah the Exalted has made it forbidden until the Day of Resurrection, and do not take back anything you have given them.”
