Hadith 841
841 - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ قَالَ: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، قَالَ: ثنا عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَفْصٍ، عَنْ يَعْلَي بْنِ مُرَّةَ، قَالَ: أَبْصَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّي اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأنَا مُتَخَلِّقٌ، فَقَالَ لِي: «يَا يَعْلَي، أَلَكَ امْرَأَةٌ؟» ، فَقُلْتُ: لَا، قَالَ: «فَاغْسِلْهُ وَلَا تَعُدْ، ثُمَّ اغْسِلْهُ وَلَا تَعُدْ» قَالَ يَعْلَي: «فَغَسَلْتُهُ وَلَا أَعُودُ، ثُمَّ غَسَلْتُهُ وَلَا أَعُودُ، ثُمَّ غَسَلْتُهُ وَلَا أَعُودُ»
Sayyiduna Ya’la bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) noticed me, and I had applied a specific type of fragrance. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me: “O Ya’la! Do you have a wife? (i.e., are you married?)” I replied: No. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then wash it off and do not apply it again. Sayyiduna Ya’la (may Allah be pleased with him) says: So I washed it off and did not apply it again, then I washed it off and did not apply it again, then I washed it off and did not apply it again.
